What Is REA?
Ans:
REA is a statutory body established in March 2002 through an act of parliament with a mandate is to:-
- Facilitate the development of grid network and off grid electricity infrastructure in rural areas of Zimbabwe
- Promote rural development by identifying electricity driven projects and corresponding project sponsors and facilitate realization of identified projects
- Ensure cost effective and efficient implementation of projects
- Research and disseminate information on rural electrification
- Promote electricity end use infrastructure development.
How is REA Funded?
Ans:
The rural electrification programme is funded through the following:-
- Rural Electrification Levy
- Fiscal allocation
- Loans
- Grants and donations from any government, organization or individuals
- Contributions from customers who require electricity
Is REA a subsidiary of ZESA Holdings?
Ans:
REA is a separate organization with its own Board of Directors.

Ans:
Public Institutions which include;
- Rural Communities
- Public and private enterprises
- Government ministries and regulatory agencies
- Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
- Management, engineering and business consulting firms
- Universities and colleges
- Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs
- Banks and Financial institutions
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT) organizations
- International and regional organizations
- Industrial and mining companies

- ZImbabweans in the Diaspora
How does one become a beneficiary of these programmes?
Ans:
A prospective customer applies (EREP/EEUID forms) for the service required (e.g Grid Extension or EEUID). REA provides a quotation for the service, if accepted by the customer the service is provided. For public institutions and government extension offices, REA has a programme to reach to every. If however REA program is slow for the customer, the instituion can opt to pay the service required.
How much does it cost to be electrified?
Ans:
It really depends on the distance from the existing grid network. The prices are also constantly changing.
What are the payment terms?
Ans:
For now paying customers are being requested to contribute the full amount due to budgetary constraints, otherwise communities can enjoy a 60% capital subsidy.
